Saturday, May 14 – Work on a Farm
Chicago Farm Lab
(near Central and Fullerton)
Help the staff and teen volunteers to serve a diverse community and schools in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood. We will be planting and doing all sorts of weeding and preparing new beds. Hopefully we will be planting the community hill project with flower seeds as well. No gardening experience necessary and lunch will be provided. Contact Tom Gull at firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
Wednesday, May 25 – Gala Kick-Off Pizza Party
(at Lou Malnati’s Oak Park)
This will be a fun way – with no obligation – to learn about volunteer needs for the Gala. Everyone is welcome as we need volunteers to select the menu, plan the program, fill seats, decorate the room, greet guests and more. RSVP not required. Please bring friends (of Dorothy and family)! See here a list of activities, duties, roles and responsibilities in planning each year’s Gala.
Contact Tim Silver at email@example.com to get involved.
Monday, May 30 – River Forest Memorial Day Parade
Join us Monday, May 30th at 8:15am at Board Member, John Becvar’s Home (719 Bonnie Brae Pl, River Forest) as we prepare to march in the River Forest Memorial Day Parade. Wear your OPALGA t-shirt if you have one and if not, we will provide one. Help us pass out pride bracelets along the 0.5 mile parade route. If you’re running behind you can also join us at the staging area #TBD at 9am. After the parade, join us for some hot dogs at Keystone Park. See the parade route here.
Saturday, June 4 – OPALGA+ Donut Day
Oak Park Farmer’s Market
Block June 4th on your calendars, OPALGA+ will be making and selling the donuts again at the Oak Park Farmer’s Market at Pilgrim Church. We will need lots of veteran and rookie volunteers alike to sign up for a shift and support one of our biggest fundraisers of the year.
Sunday, June 5 – Day in Our Village
Scoville Park, Oak Park
Each year on the first Sunday in June Oak Park sponsors A Day in Our Village, a community festival considered one of the premier community events. A Day in Our Village provides an opportunity for current and prospective residents to discover the diversity and variety of civic, cultural, social service, business, educational and religious organizations and groups in the Village.
More than 100 Oak Park entities set up activity and information booths in Scoville Park near Lake Street and Oak park Avenue, and local restaurants sell food nearby.
OPALGA+ will have a booth set up from 11am-4pm on June 5 as part of Day in Our Village in Scoville Park (next to the main Oak Park Library). Please come and say hello. We are also looking for members to help staff the booth, answer questions, and hand out postcards, pride flags, candy and whatever else we can find. It is always a very fun day. We usually have between 3-5 members staff the covered booth at any given time and are looking to fill the following shifts—10-30a-12:30p, 12:30p-2:30p, and 2:30p-4:30p. Please send an email to Ron Roman at firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help and identify which shift(s) you can help cover. No experience necessary–just a happy smile.
