Things To Do

OPALGA produces and sponsors a vast array of regular events and activities aimed at the Oak Park area LGBTQ community and our families and friends. These events are essential to our success and represent an important part of our programming.

Our premiere event is the OPAL Gala, which is our annual fundraising banquet. This event, held each spring, gives us an opportunity to celebrate our association and to recognize the outstanding efforts of those in the community who support us.

In addition, we participate in a variety of social, cultural, and community events, including:

  • Our monthly Potlucks, which provide an opportunity for socializing and networking within the community;
  • Our regular Coffee Houses, which celebrate the talents of our creative membership;
  • Our monthly book club, in which engaged readers read and discuss books related to our LGBT history;
  • Our annual holiday party, drag show, picnic, theatre outing, and home tour, which provide more opportunities for fellowship;
  • Our annual meeting, which brings you up to date on all of our accomplishments and introduces our executive board members;
  • Our annual membership appreciation meeting, in which we celebrate and recognize our most dedicated volunteers;
  • Last but not least, we celebrate our involvement in the greater Oak Park area community with our annual presence at the Donut Days at the Oak Park Farmer's Market; our participation in the annual Day in Our Village fair, held each June in Scoville Park; participation in the Oak Park 4th of July Parade which celebrates diversity and our participation in the annual Peace Fair, also held in Scoville Park each September.

We invite you to participate in each of these and many of our other events!
